In the stillness of night, a single glow breaks the darkness—the firewood flames beneath an old woman’s pot. She sits patiently, stirring with care, her face lined with years of wisdom and resilience. The faint light from the fire dances across her features and the earthen pot, revealing a moment both ordinary and profound. This painting captures more than a woman cooking; it preserves a way of life that shaped communities long before modern kitchens. Firewood was more than fuel—it was the heartbeat of the household, the center where families gathered, shared meals, and wove stories .
While growing up in the western part of nigeria Ondo State, I watched my grand mother cooking in late hour with Firewood always and many other women in serveral occassions. In most cases where there are no gas, the traditional way of using this medium alway inspired me, and she always says the food cooked in firewood comes with a great taste and the food will still be hot. This where the things that inspired me to create this amazing piece of art.
